Your Children’s Toys: 3 Ways To Gain Control

Toys are something that no parent can avoid when having children. You get one, you get the other. Unfortunately, for each child comes an extraordinary amount of toys. Overwhelming in fact. One day the toys just seem to take over the house. Worry no more, there are things you can do to control the toys that come into your house. Follow these tips: 1. Donate
This is a great idea, not only for you, but for the people who will receive the toys. A lot of families hold on to toys from when their children were babies. The problem is that they’re mixed in with their current toys. If you’re going to save some toys from your child’s babyhood, store them in a memory box. Don’t overdo it on the saving, save a couple of pieces with real treasured memories. If your children are no longer babies and it’s unlikely you’ll have anymore children, it’s time to donate the lot to people who can really use them. You can pass the toys along to friends who are having babies, local charities or a women and children’s shelter.

2. Rotate
With all those toys your children possess, it’s no surprise that they can’t keep track of them all. They forget all the great stuff they have and often end up bored. There’s just too much to sift through. Invest in a few large containers and fill them with your children’s toys. Close them up and put them away. Make sure your kids know that they no longer have access to those toys (at least for a couple of months), but they’ll get them back. Toys are now on a rotation system. In 2 months, bring out one of those boxes, empty the contents and put the current toys inside. In two more months, do the same again. You’ll be amazed and excited to see how thrilled your children are to see their “old” toys. It’s like they are new again.

3. Organize
Enough cannot be said about organizing. When things are organized, things can be found. When everything has a place to go, cleaning up becomes much easier. So, create a place for everything. A toy box is good, but containers can be better especially when it comes to smaller items such as Legos, small cars, toy jewellery, action figures etc. You don’t have to buy new containers for this, you can use shoeboxes that your children label either in words or pictures as to what goes into the box.
No matter how many children you are blessed with you will inherit tons of toys. One child seems to have as much stuff as five children. Get control early on by implementing the tips above.
