Here are some time tested favorites of kids and Moms. They are
great for parties or just a fun project for any day at home. Please
feel free to add any great ideas or recipes that you have to share
with the Moms in OC
Rubber Playdough
2 cups baking soda
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup cornstarch
Mix with a fork until smooth. Boil over medium heat until thick.
Spoon onto wax paper.
Play dough
4 cups flour
1/4 cup powdered tempera
1/4 cup salt
1 1/2 cups water
1 T oil
Mix flour, powdered paint and salt. Mix water and oil, and food
coloring if desired. Gradually stir the water and oil mix into the
flour mix. Knead the mix as you add the liquid. Add more water if
too stiff, more flour if sticky.
Just like REAL Playdough
1 cup flour
1 cup water
1 T oil
1 T powdered alum
1/2 cup salt
2 T vanilla
food coloring
Mix all dry ingredients. Add oil and water. Cook over medium heat,
stirring constantly until reaching the consistency of mashed
potatoes. Remove from heat and add vanilla and food coloring.
Divide into balls and work in color by kneading.
Best Bubble Solution
1 Cup Water
2 Tablespoons Light Karo syrup or 2 Tablespoons Glycerin
4 Tablespoons Dishwashing liquid
Mix together and have fun!
Kool-Aid Finger Paint
What you need:
2 cups flour
2 packs unsweented Kool-Aid
1/2 cup salt
3 cups boiling water
3 T. oil
What to do:
Mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients.
Silly putty 1 fluid ounce of 50% Elmer's Glue solution (in water) 5
milliliters of 4% sodium tetra borate (Borax) solution (in water) a
few drops of food coloring. Mix the food coloring with the Elmer's
Glue solution. Add the 5ml Borax solution and stir for 2 minutes.
Roll around the lump in your hands for two minutes, after which
time it will cease to be sticky. Store the putty in a clean,
covered container.
